why wool?
Wool has insulating properties which keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer. In addition, wool continues to keep you warm when damp, which is especially important for the rainy BC coast! Wool needs to be cleaned less frequently than other fibres. Its unique fibre characteristics resist soiling, and stains are readily released during cleaning. In these eco-aware times, undyed wool seems like the ultimate choice. As well, there is wonderful depth and variation in undyed natural colour, just as it comes off the sheep. Alpaca wool is as soft as cashmere and warmer, lighter and stronger than sheep's wool. The extremely fine Alpaca fibre has very little guard hair, contains no grease, oil or lanolin, and is completely odourless. Its rich silky sheen, high tensile strength, and excellent insulative or thermal qualities are just a few reasons that alpaca is so wonderful to wear around your neck. The undyed colours are especially eco-friendly and beautiful. |
what should I know about zed knitwear?
All zed knitwear should be gently washed by hand in cold water, using Eucalan or other mild natural soap. Blot in a fluffy towel, reshape and lay flat to dry. Do not wring or agitate. A light steaming on the wrong side with a clothing steamer will reset the stitches at any time. Dry cleaning is always an option if you prefer. With proper care, it will last for years.
Please be moth-aware! Store your knitwear in a moth-proof bag, especially over the summer when doors and windows let flying critters into your home!

It is all done by hand in a basin of hot soapy water and cold ice water over the course of several hours, depending on the size of the piece. Finished pieces are dried on a form and then steamed to finish. Should your purchased piece seem to get a bit floppy over time, a quick steaming with a clothing steamer will snap it back into full firm shape! Let dry thoroughly before setting on a wood surface.

I make every attempt to post photos that represent the true colour and appearance of my hand knit pieces. However, different settings may alter how the colour appears on your monitor. I also name the colours with the best descriptive possible to give you a clear idea of the colour. Felted bowls will have slight variation in size and colour as each one is unique and by the nature of the felting process will vary slightly in size.

Availability is updated on each product page daily, and I try to keep one of each scarf in stock during winter months. Otherwise, items are hand-knit to order (using real knitting needles, no knitting machines!) and therefore will take 7 to 14 days to produce.
